The Mighty Achilles

Achilles is a mighty, skillful, and feared warrior. He is the great king of the Myrmidons and son of the Goddess Thetis and Peleus. Achilles was brave, noble, strong. His opponents fear him for he is very skilled on the battleground. No one dares to challenge him for they knew what would happen to them if they challenge the mighty Achilles. He was also known as a great leader who led his army in the battle against the Trojans. Unfortunately, during their battle against the Trojans, Achilles left his men in the battlefield. He was still affected with what King Agamemnon did to his beloved Breseis. We can see in Chapter 9 that the Trojans are starting to win for Achilles left the Achaians to fight by themselves. Agamemnon now sends Odysseus, Ajax, and Phoenix hoping that they could convince Achilles to come back to battle with the Achaians. They told him that Breseis was never touched by Agamemnon or any other man. King Agamemnon offered to give her back to Achilles including many more gifts, but Achilles refused this offer. He was so selfish and arrogant at the same time, for he only thought of himself. He didn't realize that his people needed him to fight along side them and defeat the Trojans. He was too much offended by Agamemnon that his way of thinking was greatly affected by his emotions. With him alongside the Achains, their victory would be certain, but Achilles was selfish and arrogant, despite the many gifts and Breseis being offered to him, he still refused to accept it and go back to battle. A good king always thinks of the welfare of his kingdom and his people before himself. He should be firm and confident with every decisions that he makes. For a king like Achilles, his decisions were not appropriate. He will always be a good warrior, but will he ever be a good leader?
